Join Us! – Vendors
Thank you for your interest in joining the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market!
Every market day, thousands of visitors come to purchase the best that this region has to offer in farm fresh produce, prepared foods, artisanal crafts, wines and nursery stock.
How to Apply
If you are a Nova Scotia Farmer or other Primary Producer (if you grow, raise or fish your own product), please contact our market manager direct at 492-4043.
All other vendors must complete an online application form. Please apply online here.
Please make sure that you do the following when applying
- Make sure there is a space in the middle of your postal code i.e. B3L 1K4 NOT B3L1K4
- List ALL of your products i.e. basil, parsley, thyme and not just herbs
- Select ALL dates that you are interested in for 2010 and 2011
There is a $28.75 ($25 plus HST application fee) (Farmers and other Primary Producers DO NOT, at this point, have to pay an application fee). This application fee is not refundable if your application is declined – please read our policies and procedures carefully to determine if your product meets our criteria.

Prepared Food Vendors – Permits and Food Safety
For Food Safety Guidelines for Farmers’ Markets please click here.
Most prepared food vendors MUST hold a Public Market Food Permit. To determine if you need this permit please click here . Click here for the application form for a Public Market Food Permit.
All new prepared food vendors MUST have taken a Food Handlers Course in the last 12 months. Click here for details.
Most prepared foods MUST be prepared in an inspected kitchen. To determine if you need to prepare your foods in an inspected kitchen please click here. To find an inspected kitchen please contact your local food safety specialist here.
There are no exceptions to the above rules and your application cannot be accepted until you meet the criteria for selling at a public market.
Which Day Should You Apply For?
Our Saturday market is full most weeks although space occasionally becomes available. You are much more likely to be successful if you apply for the Sunday or weekday markets. The Friday International Market is also a Farmers’ Market so all are welcome to apply.
Please apply for ALL of the days that you are interested in being at the market between now and December 20. If you want to add more days you will have to reapply.
The hours of our current markets are
- Saturdays 7am to 4pm
- Sundays 8am to 4pm
- Wednesdays 8am to 4pm
- Fridays 10am to 7pm
in January we will be adding Tuesdays and Thursdays to our market days.
What We Are Looking For
Please be aware that we have high numbers of applicants and particularly high numbers of prospective vendors of baked goods and beaded jewelry so please take the time to effectively sell us your product and read our policies and procedures carefully. An application stating ‘Frozen soups, main courses and desserts prepared from locally sourced meats, grains and vegetables’ is more likely to be successful than one stating ‘Frozen foods’.
What Happens If You Don’t Get Accepted?
Vendors who are not accepted right away will remain in the system until December 2011, during which time you may update your information. You may be contacted to join our market at any time if space for your product becomes available.
Calling and emailing will not speed up the process and may in fact slow it down.
